RE: Community Garden Registration for 2022
Hello gardeners!
On Monday, May 2, 2022, at 10 a.m., we’ll be starting registration for our 2022 Community Garden season. Presently, we have 34 boxes available for seasonal rental.
We’re asking gardeners to email our general account, hrgracecommunitygarden@gmail.com, if they’re interested in renting a raised bed. We will only accept reservations via email after 10 a.m. on the date noted above, NOT before. If you’re a returning gardener, please indicate in your email whether you want to retain your box from last season (2021) – we will do our best to accommodate. As always, we will maintain a waitlist.
The annual rental fee is $10 per box. Payments can be made by cash or debit at the Town Office, 112 Water St, Harbour Grace, NL. The deadline to pay this fee will be Tuesday, May 24, at 4:30 p.m. Any unpaid boxes will be reallocated to gardeners on the waitlist. For those interested in extra boxes, these will not be granted until after the May 24 payment deadline, as our goal is to make the garden as accessible for as many gardeners as possible. However, if you’re interested in possible extra boxes, please note this in your registration email and we’ll add your name to the waitlist.
As you may know, we now have a new greenhouse for community gardeners! If you want access to the greenhouse, please note this in your registration email. Right now, capacity is limited to 8 gardeners. If interest exceeds this capacity, names will be drawn from a lottery. Those who aren’t selected from the lottery process (if required) will have ‘first dibs’ next season (2023). Those using the greenhouse will be responsible for bringing their own containers and/or seed trays.
We will have our annual couple loads of soil delivered for June.
A further reminder will be posted on Monday, May 2, at 10 a.m.
Our new Community Garden is located at Moriarty Park, near Devonshire Rd & Crystal’s Way, Harbour Grace. We currently have 34 boxes available for planters.
Parking is available on Crystal’s Way (formerly Crosbie Rd Ext.) and between the two fields.
We’re always looking for volunteers to help with programming! If you’re interested in volunteering, please email Matthew G. McCarthy, EDO, or Mary Ann Sheehan, Chairperson.

The Harbour Grace Seed Library & Exchange program is a partnership between the War Memorial Public Library and our local community garden. You don’t have to be a community garden member to take advantage of this program – all you need is a Newfoundland & Labrador Public Library Card!
And the best part? It’s free!
Sign up at our local library, get a loan of some seeds, return what you don’t use, and donate seeds from your own collection! (And maybe check out a gardening resource or recent bestseller, too?) Once the library’s seed collection is exhausted for the season, it’s gone! However, you can save seeds you grow and return them to the library for next year’s crop.
We hope this outreach project will introduce our community to gardening, food sustainability and public literacy programs in new ways.
The 2021 Harbour Grace Seed Library will be opening on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. All visiting details are below:
Seed Library hours for Summer 2021:

If you have had a chance to peruse the seed catalogue online and you know which seeds you want, you may call ahead: we will get them ready for you and you may pick them up in the library foyer.
All measures are in place so COVID-19 protocols are met.
Happy gardening!
