The Harbour Grace Volunteer Fire Brigade has a longstanding tradition of organizing our Town’s Annual Santa Claus Parade. 2020 has certainly been a challenging and difficult year living with the COVID-19 pandemic. Parades and other events normally bring together community organizations and residents to recognize special dates, holidays, or other observances.
The Fire Brigade, however, recognizes that such large gatherings like the Annual Santa Claus Parade can introduce risks during the pandemic. As such, to maintain the safety of organizers, participants and residents, the regulations we’ve developed (see attached poster) must be followed to make this year’s parade a huge success.
– Each float/vehicle participating in the parade should be comprised of individuals from the same extended family ‘bubble.’
– To avoid unnecessary gathering of parade participants, the Brigade will minimize the time forming up the parade lineup at the start of the event.
– Participants are asked to stay in their own vehicle ‘bubble,’ from start to finish.
– We ask all participants/groups to provide parade organizers with a list of names for contact tracing. This list should be emailed to organizers prior to parade day.
– No walking or dancing groups (cheerleaders, bands, hockey teams, etc.) are permitted in the parade.
– Organizers will avoid the need for in-person or person-to-person contact.
– There will be no passing objects or physical contact during the parade event. This includes but is not limited to the collection of non-perishable food items (food bank), loot bags for children, and other items such as candy, etc.
– After the parade’s finish, participants will be expected to disperse immediately.
– Citizens are encouraged to watch the parade from their home or vehicle. If you wish to watch outside, physical distance must be maintained. Face masks are recommended.
Also, this year’s parade route has been altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The parade line will form at the St. Francis Field parking lot. The route has been extended to avoid large congregations. The route go past Riverhead Irving, down Harvey St, and east toward St. Francis Field. Sensory zones will be placed along the route.
All floats must be registered by December 5, 2020.
